ABOUT US
Kele Publishing was founded in 2004, by a group of writers and journalists in northern California, Virginia, and Kansas. The company was conceived by Michael Bowker, who authored seven books and more than one thousand magazine and newspaper articles before founding Kele. Along with being a dedicated journalist, Bowker is experienced in magazine start-ups and has served as the CEO of a non-profit agency, with a total budget of more than $250,000.
"We wanted to start a publishing company that was writer-friendly," says Bowker. "As most of us who have had books handled by the huge publishing houses know, they aren't always good to their writers. For example, while they may attempt to gain media attention for a new book, they don't do much marketing for most of them. At Kele Publishing, we care about our writers and we aggressively publicize and market our books. We take great pride in extending every effort to tell the public just how good they are. For example, we do a great deal of direct-mail advertising, something that is almost unheard these days in the publishing world. The writers love it, and so do our readers."
The name 'Kele' symbolizes the family orientation that permeates the company. "It's named after my two daughters, Kristine and Michele," says Bowker (smiling). "I took the K from Kristine and the ele from the end of Michele. "If you have trouble pronouncing the name, just remember it rhymes with Michele. The two sails on the logo represent them, as well. We're having fun with it, but it also gives us all a lot of pride to know we are providing valuable books for people's lives."
